Who Told You That You Were Naked?

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked.” — Genesis 3:7

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were created without shame. They were naked before God, yet they had nothing to hide. Their vulnerability was not a weakness; it was a reflection of their complete innocence, trust, and dependence on their Creator.

But after sin entered the garden, everything changed. Shame entered where innocence once lived. Adam and Eve hid from the presence of God, and when the Lord called to Adam, He asked a profound question:

“Who told you that you were naked?” — Genesis 3:11

That question still speaks to us today.

How many things have we allowed to clothe us that God never intended for us to wear?

We have wrapped ourselves in guilt, shame, disappointment, hurt, unforgiveness, envy, jealousy, rejection, fear, and regret. Layer by layer, we have covered the very places where God wants to bring healing.

We have become so accustomed to wearing these garments that we sometimes forget they were never meant to define us.

God is calling us back to a place of vulnerability before Him—to come bare, uncovered, and completely surrendered. Not physically, but spiritually. He is asking us to strip away every false covering and lay everything before Him.

Bring Him the hurt.

Bring Him the disappointment.

Bring Him the rejection.

Bring Him the unforgiveness.

Bring Him the shame.

Bring Him the parts of your story you have tried to hide from everyone—even the parts you have tried to hide from yourself.

God already sees it all.

There is no need to hide from the One who knows you completely and loves you completely.

When we come before the Lord stripped of the layers we have used to protect ourselves, He can begin the miraculous work of restoration. What we call broken, He can rebuild. What we call shameful, He can redeem. What we have buried, He can heal.

The Lord does not want us bound by the garments of our past. He wants to exchange them for something new.

He wants to remove the guilt and give us grace.

He wants to remove the shame and remind us of our identity in Him.

He wants to remove the hurt and bring healing.

He wants to remove unforgiveness and teach us freedom.

He wants to remove rejection and remind us that we are accepted and loved by Him.

He wants to remove the heaviness we have carried for years and teach us what it means to walk freely in His presence.

Sometimes transformation begins with simply being honest enough to say, “Lord, this is me. This is what I have been carrying. I don’t want to wear it anymore. I give it all to You.”

There is freedom in surrender.

There is healing in laying it all down.

There is power in allowing God to see every part of us—not because He does not already know, but because surrender allows us to stop hiding.

God is calling you out of hiding.

Take off the layers.

Take off the guilt.

Take off the shame.

Take off the disappointment.

Take off the hurt.

Take off the unforgiveness.

Take off the rejection.

Take off everything that has kept you bound.

Come before Him just as you are.

Let Him do what only He can do.

Let Him renew you.

Let Him refresh you.

Let Him revive you.

The same God who walked through the garden looking for Adam is still seeking His children today—not to condemn us, but to draw us back into relationship with Him.

So perhaps the question for us is not simply, “Who told you that you were naked?”

Perhaps it is also:

What have you been wearing that God is asking you to take off?

Today, lay it all down.

Stand uncovered before the Lord.

Allow Him to remove every garment that does not belong to you and clothe you in His grace, His love, His righteousness, and His truth.

You don’t have to hide anymore.

It is time to take off the layers and walk into the renewed, refreshed, and revived you that God has called you to be.
