In scripture, Jesus tells us, “I am the way, the truth, and the light.” In the Bible (specifically John 14:6), this powerful statement reminds us that the direction, clarity, and life we seek are found in Him.
Today I want to focus on what that means for us when it comes to doing things our way versus doing things God’s way.
Let me ask you a question.
What are you trying to accomplish in your own strength?
Are you doing things your way—relying solely on your abilities, your understanding, and your plans—to get things done? And if so, how is that working out for you?
Have you accomplished what you set out to do?
Have you seen lasting fruit behind the things you’re doing?
Many times, doing things our way can actually hinder the Lord from doing things His way in our lives. And we must understand that His way is far better than ours. God knows exactly what we need. He knows exactly how to lead us and guide us in the way we should go when it comes to accomplishing goals, completing tasks, and walking out our purpose.
Another important question to consider is this:
What you are pursuing—what you are working toward—does it benefit your walk with the Lord?
Does it help you serve others?
Or is it primarily for selfish gain?
Sometimes we think doing things our way is easier. We think we’re in control. But when we truly trust the Lord, we stand on the promise that He is with us and for us. And as scripture reminds us, if God is for us, who can stand against us?
But when we step outside of alignment with God, life becomes much harder.
When we step outside of trusting Him with our life situations, our goals, our businesses, our households, our jobs, and even our friendships, things begin to feel overwhelming. When we rely only on ourselves, our emotions can become unstable—frustration, anger, disappointment, and discouragement begin to take over.
This is why we must allow the Lord to lead and guide us His way.
His way is easier.
His way is better.
In fact, His way is the best way.
So I’ll ask again:
Are you doing things your way and finding yourself frustrated, angry, upset, or disappointed?
If so, maybe it’s time to consider doing things God’s way.
Allow Him to lead you. Allow Him to guide you. But for that to happen, we must be willing to sit in His presence—to quiet ourselves and listen so we can hear what He has to say about the direction we should go.
When we do that, we begin to realize something powerful:
The path we were trying to force on our own was never as good as the one God already had prepared for us.
